About Us.

Global Medical Training (GMT) at UCLA is a student-led humanitarian organization dedicated to expanding healthcare access while training the next generation of compassionate providers. We operate at both the international and local levels, combining service, education, and hands-on clinical exposure.
Internationally, GMT organizes medical brigades to underserved communities in countries including Peru, Panama, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. During these week-long clinics, students work alongside licensed physicians and local healthcare professionals to provide free medical and dental care. Volunteers assist with patient intake, vital signs, triage, pharmacy distribution, and public health education, gaining meaningful exposure to global health systems and cross-cultural care.
Locally, GMT hosts health screening clinics in Los Angeles approximately four times per academic quarter. These clinics provide free blood pressure and glucose screenings, BMI assessments, hygiene kits, vaccine access through medical partners, and health resource referrals to underserved populations. Through these initiatives, our members gain supervised clinical experience while directly serving the surrounding community.
Beyond service, GMT supports students through professional development programming, including MCAT workshops, medical and dental school panels, guest speakers, mentorship opportunities, fundraisers supporting humanitarian efforts, and social events that build a strong pre-health community.
By integrating clinical experience, public health outreach, and cultural humility, GMT creates opportunities for students to grow as both future healthcare professionals and advocates for health equity.
Work We Do:

International Medical & Dental Service Trips
Our flagship service trips take students to Central America and the Dominican Republic, where they work alongside licensed physicians, dentists, and translators. Students gain direct clinical exposure while providing free healthcare to underserved communities.

Local Clinics & Screenings
We partner with communities across Los Angeles — including locations like Skid Row, Pico Union and Little Tokyo — to host free health screenings and pop-up clinics. Members assist with taking vitals, distributing health resources, and engaging with patients under professional supervision.

Community Service
GMT members regularly volunteer at local organizations like the St. Francis Center, helping with food banks and community events that serve LA’s unhoused and low-income populations.

Professional Development & Speaker Panels
We host guest panels featuring physicians, researchers, and current med students who share their journeys, insights, and advice. These events are a great way for members to explore different paths in healthcare.

Community & Socials
We believe in supporting one another on the pre-health journey. That’s why we organize socials, retreats, and bonding events — creating a tight-knit, welcoming community where lifelong friendships and networks can form.
